Plan before you book

Airport cost calculator

Compare London airport public transport, coach, private transfer, luggage, drop-off and time trade-offs in one planning view.

Best use

Use the calculator before booking flights, not only after. A cheap flight can become expensive if the airport transfer is slow, indirect or awkward with luggage.

How to use it

What changes the real airport journey cost

The calculator is not trying to guess one perfect answer. It shows which costs and frictions usually move the decision from train or coach toward a fixed-fare vehicle.

Passenger count

Rail and coach prices multiply by every traveller. A solo passenger may be cheapest by train, while three or four passengers can make a door-to-door car cheaper once station access and luggage are included.

Luggage and walking

Large cases, pushchairs, sports equipment and mobility needs make interchanges more expensive in time and stress. A route with a low ticket price can still be the wrong route if it requires several crowded platforms.

Time of day

Early departures and late arrivals change the whole calculation. Public transport gaps, night buses, road congestion, rail engineering and airport security queues can matter more than the headline fare.

How to judge the calculator output

The output is a planning screen, not a live booking engine. Use it to spot when a route needs extra checks before you buy a rail ticket, coach seat, parking stay or private transfer.

Low fare, high effort

If the cheapest route needs several interchanges, a DART or terminal shuttle, and a long walk with cases, compare the total time and physical effort before committing.

Fixed fare threshold

Once a journey has three or more passengers, bulky luggage, an early pickup or a poor rail connection, a fixed vehicle quote can become financially sensible rather than a luxury.

Before travel checks

Recheck the departure terminal, live disruption, airport drop-off fee, payment deadline, planned arrival buffer and whether the final fare includes airport charges.
