Passenger count
Rail and coach prices usually multiply by traveller, although child and group rules vary. For three or four passengers, total the live tickets and any station access, then compare that figure with a written door-to-door quote.
Plan before you book
Compare published public-transport fares from Central London, multiplied by your passenger count, alongside luggage, timing and private-transfer considerations.
This is a Central London baseline, not a door-to-door journey planner. It does not calculate travel from another town or the cost of reaching a London departure station.
Select your group and priorities; then verify each fare with the operator.
How to use it
The calculator is not trying to guess one perfect answer. It shows which costs and frictions usually move the decision from train or coach toward a fixed-fare vehicle.
Rail and coach prices usually multiply by traveller, although child and group rules vary. For three or four passengers, total the live tickets and any station access, then compare that figure with a written door-to-door quote.
Large cases, pushchairs, sports equipment and mobility needs make interchanges more expensive in time and stress. A route with a low ticket price can still be the wrong route if it requires several crowded platforms.
Early departures and late arrivals change the whole calculation. Public transport gaps, night buses, road congestion, rail engineering and airport security queues can matter more than the headline fare.

The output is a planning screen, not a live booking engine. Use it to spot when a route needs extra checks before you buy a rail ticket, coach seat, parking stay or private transfer.
If the cheapest route needs several interchanges, a DART or terminal shuttle, and a long walk with cases, compare the total time and physical effort before committing.
Bulky luggage, an early pickup or a poor rail connection can make a vehicle worth checking, but the calculator does not assume it is cheaper. Compare current ticket totals with a written quote before deciding.
Recheck the departure terminal, live disruption, airport drop-off fee, payment deadline, planned arrival buffer and whether the final fare includes airport charges.
